Thomas, Mary Elizabeth (4 June 1862 - 2 Aug. 1941)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary E. Thomas, who died at her home following a heart attack, Saturday afternoon at 4:30 were held Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock at the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. William Hallett of Stratford conducted the rites and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Six nephews of Mrs. Thomas acted as pallbearers: Dave and Willard Schindler, Dave Cowling and Archie, Dave and Jim Bonnett.

Mary Elizabeth Williams was born at Snells near Neenah, on June 4, 1862, and spent her girlhood there. On December 4, 1882 she was united in marriage to David R. Thomas of Menasha. They lived in various states and towns including Menasha, North Dakota, Spokane, Washington, Kimberly, Mosinee, before coming to Abbotsford in 1906. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas celebrated their golden wedding in December 1932. Mr. Thomas passed away October 29, 1935.

Three children were born to them; Rowland of Oshkosh, Margaret, who died in infancy, and June Cook of Mt. Vernon, Iowa. John Thomas and his father, William Thomas, have lived with them for about 35 years.

Surviving also are three grandchildren: Violetta and Darwin Cook and June Thomas; three sisters, Mrs. Jane Pryse, Mrs. Kate Schindler and Mrs. Esther Cowling of Neenah; and one brother, Thomas Williams, of Denver, Colorado.

Among the relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Thomas of Oshkosh, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Cook and daughter, Violetta, Mt. Vernon, Iowa; Jim Bonnett of Luverne, Minn.; Mrs. Vie Annenson and daughter, Yvonne, Mrs. Margie Gerta, Archie and Dave Bonnett of Magnolia, Minn., all children of the deceased sister, Ellen.

Mrs. Jane Pryse, Mr. and Mrs. Jon. Schindler, Mrs. George Cowling, sisters of the deceased, and Mrs. Irving Zwicky and David Cowling, all of Neenah, Wis., David, Frank and Margaret Schindler, of Neenah; Mrs. Alex Malcolm, Kimberly; and Mrs. Lowel Tabel, Neenah; Mrs. Gary Tuttle, Hilbert; Mr. and Mrs. William Ziegert, Black Creek; Mr. and Mrs. L. Wilson, Appleton; Chris Wedeking, Nekoosa.
