One of the loveliest weddings of the fall season was solemnized Wednesday morning, Oct. 19th, 1949, at 9 a.m., when a double ring ceremony united Miss Betty Devine and Sylvester Janda in marriage in a ceremony performed before the altar of the Holy Rosary Church, Owen. Fr. Raymond Bornbach officiated at the nuptial mass.

For the happy occasion the bride was attired in a white satin gown styled with a sheer marquisette yoke trimmed with wide Chantilly lace, draped bustle back, and a full skirt which extended into a cathedral train. The fingertip veil fell from a white satin half-hat with lace ruffles and seed pearls. Her bouquet of American beauty roses were centered with a white orchid.

The maid of honor, Miss Alice Devine, and the bridesmaids, Mrs. Jack Clifton and Miss Eleanor Janda, all wore identically styled dresses of American beauty satin with cap sleeves and matching gauntlets and hats. Heart shaped bouquets of white mums and larkspurs completed their ensembles.

Serving as best man was Henry Mauel, Jr., while other groomsmen were Carl Sillampa and John Terharr.

During the ceremony Mrs. James Gummerson, accompanied by Mrs. W. K. Doonan at the organ, sang "Ave Maria."

The bride’s mother chose a grey gabardine suit with rust and black accessories, while the groom’s mother had chosen a grey crepe dress with black and grey accessories.

After the ceremony a breakfast party was served at the Meadowview Country Club as was a dinner. The dining room of the clubhouse was appropriately decorated with American beauty roses and white streamer, while bouquets of matching flowers adorned the table settings.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Devine, Owen. A graduate of the Owen High School, she has been employed for the past several years as a stenographer at the Owen Canning Corp.

Mr. Janda is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel Janda of Kewaunee, Wis. He graduate from the school system of that city. He later attended the dairy course offered at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Upon coming to Owen he was associated for two years with the D. H. I. A. but resigned that position early this spring to associate himself with the Bergstrom Auto Co.

Both of these young people are well and highly respected in the community and have the best wishes of their many friends for a long and pleasant wedded life. The couple will reside in Owen and will move into their new home being built in the first ward, upon completion.
