Churkey, Julia (9 AUG 1865 - 12 NOV 1949)

Mrs. Charles Churkey was laid to her final resting place in the Greenwood Cemetery at Greenwood, yesterday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at two o’clock Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 16, from the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin). The Rev. Myron Glick of the First Congregation Church, Owen, officiated at the final rites.

Pallbearers were: Philip Laube, Henry Laube, Harvey Schwarze, Frank Prepeluh and Manfred Dietrich. Flowers were in charge of Mesdames Philip and Henry Laube and Harvey Schwarze.

Mrs. Churkey was 84 years, 3 months and 3 days of age, at the time of her death at the Victory Hospital, Stanley, where she passed away just a few minutes after admission on Saturday, Nov. 12, 1949. She had been ill for about two weeks at her home before being brought to the hospital, where it was learned that her death was attributed to pneumonia.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1865 in Sauk Co., Wis. She was united in marriage to E. J. Lewis in 1888. After his death, she remarried to Charles Churkey on Sept. 12, 1935, at Sigurney, Iowa. In her early girlhood, her family moved to the Town of Warner, Clark county, where she lived until the time of her second marriage, when she moved onto the Churkey farm in the Town of Green Grove.

Mrs. Churkey was a person possessing a congenial personality and an untiring worker. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Greenwood.

Surviving her are two sisters, Minerva and Emiline, a brother, John, two sons, Foss and Casper Lewis, both of Chicago; one daughter, Ruth (Mrs. Charles Strassburg), Marion, Wis.; one grandson, Edward Nelson, Claresholm, Alberta, Canada; her husband, Charles, and four stepsons, David, Marvin, Donald and William, Owen; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren
