Shereda, Vandi F. (21 SEP 1887 - 16 NOV 1949)
Vandi F. Shereda, aged 62, succumbed to a heart attack which he suffered in his room at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls, where he was a patient, early last evening. He was admitted to the hospital two days previous and had been up and walking around the hospital yesterday afternoon and just a few minutes prior to his death, which occurred as he sat in a chair.
Funeral services will be conducted at two o’clock tomorrow afternoon, Friday, Nov. 18, from St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, with Rt. Rev. Dr. K. O. Crosby officiating. Burial will be made in the Riverside Cemetery.
Pallbearers at the service will be Pete Madsen, E. C. Olds, Harvey Weddig, R. E. Gabriel, L. W. Cattanach and Ben Bruchert.
Vandi was born on Sept. 21, 1887 at Prairie du Chien. He came to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) as an employee of the railway company 36 years ago. In 1913 he became the cashier of the Owen State Bank, which position he retained until the bank closed in 1933. Vandi was a highly respected citizen. Of late years his health had curtailed his participation in too many public offices. However, he had served the Owen Masonic Lodge as its only treasurer, a fact which is also true of St. Katherine’s Church, which he was a member. For over 20 years he served as clerk on the Owen School Board. In 1927 he was appointed as mayor of the City of Owen, to fil the unexpired term of Archie Mohr, at the time of his death. He served until 1929. He held many other public offices in the Owen Chamber of Commerce, the Meadowview Country Club and he was a charter member of the Owen Kiwanis Club.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Bobette (Mrs. Frank Tormey), Withee, and one granddaughter.
A complete obituary will appear in the Enterprise next week.
