Ward, Charles (23 APR 1873 - 08 APR 1944)
Charles Ward passed away at his home in this city Saturday, April 8, at the age of 70 years, 11 months, and eight days. He was buried from the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin) Tuesday, April 11, and was interned in the Riverside cemetery, Rev. C. Matthews officiating, with the Masonic lodge performing the rites.
Charles Ward was born in the town of Eagle, Richland County, Wis., on April 23, 1873. On November 6th, 1898, he was united in marriage to Maude Stettler. To this union four children were born, one dying in infancy. Those living are Clyde, of Wausau, Gladys (Mrs. Clarence McManus), of Jump River, and Frank, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In 1908 they moved to Jump River, and settled on a farm, later moving to that village. Mr. Ward held several town offices and was deputy sheriff of Taylor County for several terms. In 1926 they moved to Owen, where he worked for the John S. Owen Lumber Co. Eight years ago, when his health failed, he retired from work. For the past two years he has been confined to his bed.
He leaves his wife, three children, four grandchildren, one brother and one sister, several nieces and nephews besides a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Vandi Shereda, Matt Williams, Walter Cattanach, Carl Halverson, A.M. Wilson, and Shirleigh Grimes.
Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mrs. Gertrude Wheeler, a sister, Limeridge; Mrs. John Klastic, Ladysmith; Mrs. Slim Dounelly, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Armand Christopherson, Stanley; Mrs. Mike Dietzler and daughter, Melva, Gilman; Mrs. Ed. Clemons, Kenosha; Mrs. Glen Barber, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. James McManus, Sr., Stanley; Jim McManus, New Port, Wash.; Delta McManus, a granddaughter, Eau Claire; and Mrs. Minnie Puland, Sheboygan.
