Steinwand, Meta (9 Aug. 1876 - 30 May 1962)
Mrs. Ambrose M. Steinwand died at 4:15 P.M. Wednesday, May 30, at her home in Colby, Wisconsin at the age of 85 years. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. John Pinion officiating, and internment was made in the Colby Memorial cemetery (Colby, Wisconsin).
Pall bearers were Francis Steinwand, Joe Steinwand, Walter Mueller, Theodore Frome, Milford Frome and Rod Cook.
Meta Frome was born in Sheboygan county on August 9, 1876, and moved to Colby, with her parents, at the age of eight years. The family homesteaded on a wild tract of land west of Colby - now being occupied by Wesley Frome - which, by hard and diligent work, they built into a fine farm. She was married in Colby, Wisconsin on April 10, 1908, to Ambrose M. Steinwand who operated a cheese factory in the town of Colby until 1915 when they purchased the Philippi home on the west edge of the city limits and moved into the home. In 1922, they moved into their present home in the second ward in Colby, Wis. Mr. Steinwand died on November 1, 1957.
Surviving are a son, Herbert, a daughter, Miss Laura Steinwand, a brother, Louis Frome, a sister, Mrs. Ida Tesmer, all of Colby, two grand children and six great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers.
Out-of-town people here for the funeral were from Withee, Juneau, Neillsville, Wausau, Slinger, Marshfield, Pewaukee, Bristol, Owen, Merrill and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
