Samek, Walter (28 OCT 1886 - 30 JAN 1950)
Funeral services were conducted this morning at ten o’clock at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, for Walter Samek, 64 years of age, who passed away at 4:20 a.m. Monday. Services were officiated at by Father Raymond Bornbach. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were: John Zelent, Gus Baum, John Rohland, Louis Klabon, John Warych and Adolph Janee.
Walter Samek was born on Oct. 28, 1886 in Poland. He was one of five children in the family residing in his native Poland until 1907, when as a young man of 21 years, he came to America. He settled in Chicago, where he worked hard and shared his earnings by educating his younger brother, Ed, still residing in Poland, to a university education. On July 19, 1912, he was united in marriage to his wife, Mary Chlopek, in Chicago. Eight years ago, in 1942, eh and his wife and family moved to their present farm home, located four miles north and two and one-half miles east of the city.
His sudden and untimely loss from his family and wide circle of friends came as a shock to everyone as he had been ill but only a day. He entered the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital on Sunday, when he first became ill. Death came within a matter of a few hours.
Mourning his departure from these earthly surroundings are his wife and son, Mathew, two daughters, Mrs. Sigmund (Francis) Lemtz, Withee, and Mrs. Angelo (Julie) Tellarico, Oak Park, Ill.; two grandsons, Frank Samek, route 2, Owen and Tommy Tellarico, Oak Park, Ill.; three granddaughters, Janet Samek, route 2, Owen; Diane Tellarico, Oak Park, Ill., and Julia Samek, Chicago.
