Durst, John (25 November 1870 - 7 September 1951)
John Durst, age 80, of 228 Pitcher Street, Neillsville, died on Friday at 10:45 p.m. at the local hospital. He had been in ill health since 1942. Funeral services were conducted from the Georgas Funeral Home on Monday at 1:45 p.m. and from the Zion American Lutheran Church of Pine Valley at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Leonard Domke officiated. Interment was made in the Pine Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Durst was born on November 25, 1870, to John and Marie Durst, Sr., in Germany. He received his education in Germany and in the United States. He came to this country with his parents when he was eleven years old. They located at Plymouth, Wis., on a farm and in 1901 they moved to Neshkoro, Wis., where he was employed as a section foreman on the railroad for four years. On May 26, 1895, he was married to Louise Meyer. They moved to the Town of Hewett in 1905, where they farmed for 32 years. Mrs. Durst died on November 26, 1931.
Five children were born to this union, all of whom survive: Walter Durst, Mrs. William (Clara) Meihack, and Arno Durst, all of Neillsville, Alvin Durst of Sheboygan Falls, and Mrs. Clarence (Nioma) Vandeberg of Loyal.
On April 19, 1937, he was married to Klara Seigle at Waukegan, Ill. She survives him as do 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one brother, Charles Durst, of Plymouth and one sister, Mrs. Herman Duenkel of Oshkosh.
Pallbearers were: Ed Short, Fred Weisjahn, Ernest Snyder, William Beyer, William Adams and Ernest Henning. Floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. Harry Hansen, Mrs. Donald Will, Mrs. William Buchsteiner, Mrs. Harold Rockwood, Miss Anette Durst and Miss Lorraine Meihack. Wilfred Galstad sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. Kenneth Dux.
Persons from out of town attending the rites included Alvin Durst, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Durst, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Charles Durst, Jr., and daughter, Mrs. Freida Meyer, Herman Meyer, Mrs. Edith Weilbacker and Mary Ann, Miss L. Elmer, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Elmer and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Rortvedt, all of Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Duenkel of Oshkosh, Mrs. Donald Will of Colby, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Peiper of Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Ollhoff of Merrill, -Shirley, Milford, Ivan and Marvin Vandeberg of Loyal, Mrs. William Buchsteiner of Reedsburg, Mrs. Harold Rockwood of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Dahlke and Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Dahlke of Neshkoro.
