Brossow, Lillian (18 JUN 1884 - 29 MAR 1950)
Mrs. Lillian McKay Brossow, a descendant of pioneer American and Canadian families, was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Saturday afternoon following services at two o’clock in the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin).
Mrs. Brossow died early Wednesday morning, March 29, 1950, at her farm home two miles south of Clark (Clark Co., Wis.). She had been ill previously with influenza, but was believed to be recovering. Her death, which was unexpected, was attributed to heart complications.
Surviving are her husband, John Charles Brossow; three daughters, Mrs. Julius Pralguske of Withee, Mrs. T. A. Thronson of Kenosha, Wis. and Mrs. Edward Vlack, Jr. of North Chicago, Ill.; five sons, Frank, residing on the home farm, Glenn, Withee, Johnson Lynn of Racine, Wis., and Elwin N. and Alfred of Seward, Alaska; 20 grandchildren and numerous other relatives throughout the United States and Canada.
Mr. and Mrs. Brossow came to this area in April 1913, and settled on the farm where they have lived since then. They preciously had made their home in Kenosha where Mr. Brossow was employed for several years by the T. B. Jeffrey Company, now the Nash-Kelvinator.
Mrs. Brossow was born in Chicago, June 18, 1884, the daughter of Findley and Elizabeth Sable Clark McKay. She was a granddaughter of Hugh McKay of Ontario, Canada, a Great Lakes Captain, whose ship visited numerous Wisconsin Lake Ports more than a century ago. Her maternal relatives were also of pioneer stock, contributing early settlers to many communities, including central and southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois, as well as more distant regions here and in Canada.
She received her education in Kenosha Co. schools and spent much of her early life at Salem, Wis., where a sister, Mrs. Annie Clark Minnis, still resides. Mrs. Jean O. Nichols, Chicago, and Miss Elizabeth McKay, Evanston, are other sisters who survive.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W. Myron Glick of the First Congregational Church of Owen.
Pallbearers were: Eugene Santala, Onnis Kangas, Wallace Wood, Lawrence Munson, Leslie Buss and Edmond Lentz. Those in charge of the flowers were: Mesdames Wallace Wood, Lawrence Munson, Leslie Buss, Edmond Lentz, William Kiviko, Martin Keskimaki, Lewis Gehrke, Ray Munson and Miss Lorraine Milewski.
