Coming Marriage Announced

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Toelle announce the coming marriage of their daughter, Evelyn Elizabeth, to Technical Sergeant Leonard G. Colby, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Colby, of Abbotsford, Wis.

The military wedding will take place in the chapel at Camp Livingston, July 4. Mrs. Toelle and her daughter and Mrs. Colby left Wednesday for Alexandria where they will be met by Tech Sgt. Colby, Wis. Mrs. Toelle and Mrs. Colby plan to return the first of next week while the bride will remain with her husband for an indefinite stay.

The chapel at Camp Livingston was the scene of a military wedding when Miss Evelyn Toelle of Abbotsford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Toelle, became the bride of Tech Sgt. Leonard Colby, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Colby, Wis.

At 10:30 on the morning of July 4 the 173rd Field Artillery took their places in a body in the chapel and as the organ began the bridal music, formed an arch of flags through which the bridal couple marched to the altar where the Rev. Beyrns, Catholic chaplain, read the marriage vows.

The bride wore a gown of white velveray over satin made with a tight bodice, long full sleeves with a tight cuff and a voluminous skirt with a train. She wore a gold locket, a gift of the groom, at the neck. Her long lace edged veil fell in filmy clouds from a tiara of seed pearls and lace. Her bouquet of white gladioli was tied with a large satin bow.

Her only attendant was Mrs. Niles Hamilton, the former Loretta Stieber, of Wausau, a June bride at Camp Livingston. She wore a frock of light blue net over satin made with a fitted bodice, short sleeves and very full skirt. Pink carnations in her hair and a shoulder corsage contrasted daintily with the blue in her dress.

The groom and his attendant, Sgt. Hamilton, wore the company uniform.

The bride’s mother wore a navy blue crepe dress with white accessories, while the groom’s mother wore a dress of blue checked sheer and a matching hat.

After the ceremony the flags were again arched and Tech Sgt. Colby and his bride left the church where they were greeted by a shower of rice and were given a ride in a "jeep." The company band then formed a circle about the bridal party and played appropriate music until noon, when they all had dinner together at the mess hall.

In the evening Mrs. Toelle entertained the bridal party and Mrs. Colby at a hotel in Alexandria where a wedding dinner was served after which they all left for Baton Rouge, La., where they remained until Monday.

The bride and groom are making their home in Alexandria for the present.

The bride, who attended Wausau Business Institute, following her graduation in 1939, was employed for two years at the Marathon Finance Co., in Wausau. The groom is a graduate of the Abbotsford high school, class of 1937. He was a member of the National Guard unit here and left Abbotsford with the company in October, 1940 and has been in Camp Livingston since that time.
