Mrs. Emily Merwin Has Nine Grandsons in the Service
Mrs. Emily Merwin has the honor of having nine grandsons fighting for the cause of the United Nations. A tenth grandson, Harold Merwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Merwin, received his honorable discharge last July after having been a member of the National Guard unit for 12 years, serving as a mess sergeant at Camp Livingston, La.
Mrs. Merwin’s soldier grandsons are:
Sgt. Arvin Merwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Merwin, Abbotsford, a technician at the army air base, Las Vegas, Nevada; Corporal Archibald Merwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Merwin, Wausau, in the signal corps, Ft. Monmouth, N.J.; Pvt. Gilbert Merwin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Merwin, Wausau, of the technical school at Buckley Field, Colorado.
Six sons of Earnest Merwin of Pleasant Dale, Saskatchewan, Canada, volunteered for service there: three are overseas: Gunners Edwin, Conrad and Wilfred Merwin, somewhere in England.
Serving in Canada are Joe Merwin, a trainer in Diesel engines, in Manitoba; Edmond at Teterace, B.C., of the K.O.R.C. (King’s Own Rifle Corps); Roman, a gunner, was permanently injured while on maneuvers in Canada.
Mrs. Merwin has other grandsons who are waiting for the day when they will have reached the age to also join in active service for their country.
