Moberg, Robert (5 June 1931 - 4 Apr. 1944)

Funeral services for Robert Moberg, 12, who died as the result of a shotgun accident Tuesday night, will be held at St. Bernard’s Catholic church, Monday morning. The Rev. Francis Brockman will officiate at the Requiem High Mass and internment will be made in the Abbotsford cemetery.

The accident, which cost the life of Robert, happened Tuesday evening about 6:30 on the Joe McCabe farm which has just been vacated. Bob, with a group of other boys, had gone to the farm, which is just south of Abbotsford to shoot sparrows. He was climbing a ladder to the hay mow when the 12-gauge shotgun he was carrying accidentally discharged.

Dr. G. G. Shields was called to the scene and he took Bob to the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital, where he was given a blood transfusion. The blast had perforated his intestines, abdominal organs and the spinal column, paralyzing his lower limbs. Before a second transfusion could be given, shock and internal hemorrhage caused his death at 9:50 that same night.

The body was brought to the Zink Funeral Home and will be taken to the Moberg home, just west of the high school, Friday afternoon, where it will lie in state until Monday morning.

Robert Moberg was born in Abbotsford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry F. Moberg, June 5, 1931. He was in the seventh grade of the Abbotsford school which he entered when a first grader.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Irving (Bernadine) Jerabek, Eau Claire, and Carol, at home, and three brothers, Donald and Lloyd, Cudahy, and Clifford, Santa Monica.

The brothers and sisters are here, except Clifford, who will not be able to come.
