Hackel, Barbara (2 Dec. 1857 - 17 June 1944)
Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph Hackel, 86, who died Saturday at 9:50 p.m. at her home on Route 1, were held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Thomas’ Catholic church, Milan, with the Rev. Fr. Schultz of Wuerzburg officiating. Burial was made in the Dorchester cemetery. Her death was attributed to infirmities of old age.
The pallbearers were: Isadore Hackel, Joseph Hackel, Edward Wertermeier, Lawrence Erben, Eldred Tauchen and Clarence Wogernese.
Mrs. Hackel, the former Barbara Schoebel, was born Dec. 2, 1857, in Austria, and was married in 1884 at Stetsonville. The couple made their home on a farm in the town of Holton where they were among the earliest settlers.
Her husband and three children preceded her in death. Survivors include three sons and a daughter: Albert, Otto and William, Abbotsford, and Mrs. Mary Hawkins, Chicago.
