Bittner, Mary (5 May 1865 - 11 Feb. 1945)
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Bittner, 79, who died Sunday at the farm home northeast of Dorchester, were held this morning at 9:30 at the home and at 10 o’clock at St. Louis’ Catholic church. The Rev. Phillip Weller officiated at the requiem high mass.
Mrs. Mary Bittner, nee Korger, was born in Austria May 5, 1865, and at the age of 22 came to the United States, settling in Ironwood, Mich. On Nov. 5, 1888, she was united in marriage to Joseph Bittner and they lived in Ironwood until 1893, when they came to their present farm in the Town of Holton, four miles northeast of Dorchester, Wis.
She lived on that farm until about three years ago, when she moved to Abbotsford, living here until Dec. 15, 1944. Her health began to fail at this time so she was taken to the home of her son, Ed, where she died of complications and dropsy.
Her husband preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1913. A son and daughter also preceded her in death.
Surviving are four children, Mary and Edward, at home; Mrs. Bertha Springer, Dorchester and Mrs. Hilda Springer, Kenosha; 12 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
After moving to Abbotsford, Mrs. Bittner was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic church and also of the Catholic Ladies’ Altar Society.
