Emling, Marian J. (Marriage - 12 Apr. 1945)

In a double-ring ceremony performed by the Rev. F. H. Sprengler, pastor of Epiphany Evangelical Lutheran church, at 8:00 o’clock Thursday evening, April 12, in Our Savior’s Lutheran church, Stanley, Miss Marian J. Emling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Emling, and grand daughter of Mrs. J. P. Olsen, Abbotsford, became the bride of T/Sgt. Mendus R. Western, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus H. Western. The Rev. J. N. Midtlien, pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran church, assisted in the ceremony.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white net over white taffeta, made princess style with a sweetheart neckline and bracelet length sleeves. Her circular, finger tip veil, cap style, edged with chantilly lace, was held in place by a white, seed pearl and orange blossom tiara. She carried an arm bouquet of white roses, carnations and gardenias. She wore a necklace, a gift of the groom.

The maid of honor was her sister, Ila Mae, in a blue net over satin gown, made princess style with matching floral headdress. She carried an arm bouquet of gardenias and pink and white carnations.

Her bridesmaid was Miss Frances Mae Christopherson, of Burkhart, a cousin of the groom, in a pink marquisette gown, made with a full tiered skirt. She carried a similar arm bouquet.

Attending the groom, who was in uniform, were his brother, Arleigh Western, as best man, and the bride’s brother, LaVerne Emling, both wearing dark suits with white carnation boutonnieres. Ludolph Parisius and Gilman Anderson were ushers.

Before the ceremony, Mrs. Reuben Kalk sang "O Perfect Love," and "I Love You Truly."

The mother of the bride wore a black dress and the groom’s mother wore navy blue with pink trim. Both wore corsages of pastel colored sweet-peas.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds received the congratulations and best wishes of their many friends, following which a reception was held in the church parlors. Covers were laid for 70 at the gaily decorated tables, trimmed with flowering plants and pink and white lighted candles. A three tier wedding cake, topped with a dove holding two wedding rings in its beak, centered the bride’s table.

T/Sgt. Western has recently returned from 35 months of service in the Southwest Pacific and Mrs. Western has been employed at the Farmer’s store.

The newlyweds spent the week end at Menomonie visiting relatives and left on Monday from Eau Claire, for Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where Sgt. Western will be stationed.

Out of town guests who attended the wedding were: Mrs. J. P. Olsen and Miss Laura Olsen, Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Feit and daughter, Jean, of Unity; Mr. and Mrs. John Pribnow, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Frye and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Anderson, Neillsville.
