Poplawski, Ted (16 May 1903 - 23 May 1945)
Ted Poplawski and Emil Zenk of Edgar, Route 1, were fatally injured early Wednesday morning when their car failed to make a curve and crashed head on into a tree, a mile north of Marshfield on Highway 97. The men were headed for Stratford, according to available information.
The bodies of the men were removed to the Sauter undertaking rooms at Stratford. A superficial examination at the time of the accident showed that Poplawski, who was apparently the driver, since he was jammed behind the wheel, suffered a broken neck and Mr. Zenk a badly fractured skull and broken left leg. The front end of the automobile was completely demolished by the impact with the tree.
Mr. Poplawski was 42 years old on May 16. He was born at Weyerhaeuser and lived for a time in Chicago. He operated a cheese factory in Brownsville and also farmed near Curtiss. For the past 10 years he has been at the Diamond Dairy cheese factory, Edgar, Route 1. He was married in Chicago to Margaret Janick, March 4, 1924.
Besides his widow, he leaves his daughter, Lorraine, who is a member of the Abbotsford high school graduating class of this year, and five boys, Theodore, Eugene, Wayne, Jerry and Stanley, all at home.
One sister, Mrs. Joe (Catherine) Janick and two brothers, Jack and Stanley, all of Weyerhaeuser, also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at Athens. Rev. Walter Barron, pastor of the Christian Assembly, will officiate and burial will be made in Athens.
Emil H. Zenk, 46, farm owner and operator was born in the town of Frankfort, Aug. 6, 1898. He was married in Chicago to Miss Helen Kucinski, May 28, 1923. They moved to the town of Frankfort 13 years ago.
Besides his widow he leaves two sisters, Miss Anna Zenk, and Mrs. William Dixon, Chicago; and four brothers, Earnest, of Sheboygan; Albert and Henry of Whittlesey and Carl of the town of Frankfort.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at the Lutheran church in the town of Frankfort.
