Herrmann, Verna E. (Marriage - 13 Oct. 1945)
Miss Verna E. Herrmann, daughter of Mrs. Elsie Herrmann, of Colby, was given in marriage by her brother, Richard, to Eugene H. Blair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Blair, of Unity on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 13. The Rev. Lee Holmes, an uncle of the groom, of La Farge, read the service at 1:30 at the First Evangelical and Reformed church at Colby, before the altar decorated with chrysanthemums, dahlias and asters.
Before the ceremony, Miss Grace Grether sang, "I Love You Truly."
The bride wore a gown of white faille with net overskirt. A single strand of pearls, a gift of the groom, emphasized the sweetheart neckline. Her veil was caught to a crown of orange blossoms and fell in a long train. She carried a bouquet of Talisman roses, swansonia and gardenias.
Miss Evelyn Herrmann, as her sister’s maid of honor, wore a ruffled trim gown of white net with short, white veiled head dress, and carried a colonial bouquet of pink roses and gladiolas surrounded with blue tulle. Miss Mary Ann Ditzenberger, cousin of the groom, who served as bridesmaid, was attired in white satin with net overskirt, and wore a white veiled head dress. Her colonial bouquet was surrounded with pink tulle. Both attendants wore pearl necklaces, gifts of the bride.
A reception and supper were held at the home of the bride’s mother later in the evening for the immediate relatives, with about 75 in attendance. The home was decorated with blue and white streamers and bouquets of chrysanthemums.
After Nov. 1 the young couple will reside near Spencer where the groom is engaged in farming.
