Weetz, Emma Caroline (26 June 1880 - 27 Jan. 1946)

Funeral services for Mrs. John Weetz, 65, who died at 8:20 Sunday morning, were held this afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Ervin Bitter, where the body had been lying in state. Services at 2:00 o’clock at Christ Lutheran church followed and internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. The Rev. F. H. Sprengler, pastor of the Lutheran church, officiated at the rites.

The pallbearers were Hans Amacher, Vane Gokey, Walter Jackson, Walter Kuenzi, John Schefsick, and Louis Schorer.

The flowers were carried by Mrs. Herbert Pacholke, Mrs. John Beyerl, and the Misses Gertrude Apfelbeck, Marion Hoeft, Florence Miller, Violet Selzner, Jeanette Stecker and Eileen Voightlander.

Among the relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Weetz, and son, David, Milwaukee; Gustav Steinke, Joliet, Ill.; Herman Steinke, Ft. Dodge, Ia.; Mrs. Nick Selzner and daughter, Violet, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Bertha Dohm, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dohm and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ruesch, all of Medford.

Emma Caroline Steinke was born in La Salle, Ill., June 26, 1880. She lived there until the age of 19 when her parents moved to a farm at Jackson, Minn. Here she was married to John Weetz on June 10, 1903. They lived on a farm out of Jackson and later in the town there until 1922 when they came to Abbotsford and for a year they operated a restaurant in the place now occupied by Henry Duellman.

Mr. Weetz then was employed by the Northern States Power company and later was village assessor and insurance salesman during which time the family lived in the house where the Ervin Bitter family resides, until they built the house next door.

Mrs. Weetz had been in good heath and went to Joliet after the holidays to help her sister-in-law who was convalescing from an operation. On Sunday morning, after breakfast, still apparently in good health, she unexpectedly collapsed as she was walking across the floor, and was dead.

Mrs. Weetz leaves her daughter, Mrs. Ervin (Adeline) Bitter, Abbotsford, and son, Clarence, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There are three grand children; John Carl Bitter, seaman second class, of the United States navy, in Okinawa; Melvin Bitter, Abbotsford, and David Weetz, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There are two brothers, Gustav Steinke, Joliet, Ill., and Herman Steinke, Ft. Dodge, Ia.

Her husband preceded her in death on May 11, 1939. Her parents and one brother also preceded her in death.
