Le Claire, Dena (3 July 1856 - 23 Mar. 1946)

Funeral services for Mrs. Julius L. Le Claire, 89, who died at 7:20 at her home, Saturday morning, were held Tuesday morning at 9:30 in St. Bernard’s Catholic church. The Rev. Francis Brockman officiated at the requiem high mass after which internment was made in the Dorchester cemetery.

The pallbearers were six grand sons, Vernon, Clarence and Myron Kramer, Abbotsford; Bob Lord, Cornell; Leonard Gutwasser, Chippewa Falls; and Forrest Piper, Carlton, Minn.

Mrs. Le Claire was born Dena Fountain, in St. John’s Chirnauton, District of Baybarnoie, East Canada, July 3, 1856. At the age of ten, she moved with the family to Fond du Lac. Her on the anniversary of the 20th birthday she was married to Julius Le Claire.

A year later the young couple came to an 80-acre farm which is now part of the village of Dorchester and lived there for 43 years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Le Claire were ardent Catholics and were charter members of St. Louis’ Catholic church at Dorchester, Wis.

In 1920 they left the farm and Dorchester and came to Abbotsford to make their home. Here Mr. Le Claire died on Dec. 15, 1927.

Mrs. Le Claire had been in poor health a number of years and had been a bed patient more than a year.

At the time of her death she was a member of St. Bernard’s congregation and had been an active member of the Ladies’ Altar Society while her health permitted. A rosary service was held by the Altar Society on Monday evening at the Zink Funeral home where the body had been lying in state.

She is survived by four sons, George of Neillsville; Art, Rhinelander; Edward, Portland, Oregon; and Wilfred, Seattle, Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Edith Kramer, Abbotsford; Mrs. Wilfred (Olive) Lord, Cornell; and Miss Lelah Le Claire, Abbotsford; a sister, Mrs. Della Henneberry, Baker, Oregon; 19 grand children, and 15 great grand children.

Another daughter, Mrs. A. J. (Alice) Gutwasser, and two brothers are dead.
