Sorenson, Julius #2 (16 JUL 1891 - 5 FEB 1951)

A heart illness from which he had suffered for better than two years proved fatal to Julius Sorenson, 59, as he sat in the living room of his home visiting with his wife Monday afternoon, Feb. 5, 1951. Funeral services were held at two o’clock Thursday, Feb. 8th from the First Congregational Church and were then followed by Masonic services. Burial was made at the Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gordon Thorson, Manfred Dietrich, John Potocnik, Dona Hawks. Harvey Wedding and George Funk. Those in charge of flowers were Ruth Hawks, Mildred Grimes, Pauline Randall, Helen Haselow and Virginia Mathewson.

Julius Sorenson was born on July 16, 1891 at Glenwood City, Wis. He spent his entire boyhood in this community and received his education in the community’s public schools. On April 8, 1920 he was united in marriage to Zelda Long at St. Paul, Minn.

Four children were born to this union, three sons, Donald, Donovan, Douglas, and one daughter, Ferne. He was employed as a railway maintenance foreman for the Soo Line Railway, first at Glenwood City and then at Owen (Clark Co., Wis.). He started with the railway in 1923 and retained his association with them until he was forced tor retire by his illness in 1949. He and his family moved to Owen about 13 years ago.

His first wife preceded him in death, passing away on Aug. 4, 1939. On March 27, 1948 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Ohman at Beloit, Wis.

Julius Sorenson was of very righteous and wholesome character. He was sincere, understanding and a very devoted husband and father. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, of the Eastern Star Lodge, having served as Past Worthy Patron, the American Legion, having served as Commander of the past at Glenwood City and held the office of Chaplain in the local Post and had always been an active member in the Congregational Church.

Surviving are his wife, three sons and daughter, and a step-daughter, Mrs. J. W. Thompson of Elkhorn, Wis. Also two sisters, Mrs. Lona Walker, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Amelia Sorenson, Glenwood City and two brothers, Martin and Art of Glenwood City.

A. Emilson, Beloit; Mrs. J. W. Thompson and Krinta Ann, Elkhorn; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ohman, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. C. a. Thorsen, Baldwin, Mr. Elmer Thorsen, Roberts, and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hagen, Glenwood City.
