Hingess, Alvin (19 Dec. 1863 - 29 Apr. 1946)

Funeral services for Alvin Hingiss, 83, who died April 29 at his home, Curtiss, Route 1, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Zink Funeral Home with the Rev. M. R. Ferguson of the Methodist church of Colby officiating. Burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Michael Cull, Nels Frederickson, Frank Lukas, Walter Neumann and Arthur and Harvey Weideman.

Alvin Hingiss was born Dec. 19, 1863 in Centerville, near Sheboygan. In 1886 he purchased a farm of 120 acres in the town of Mayville, located three a half miles west and one mile north of Abbotsford, Wis. When Mr. Hingiss came to this part of the state there was no road to Abbotsford and only a logging road to Colby, Wis.

In 1891 he was married to Miss Lottie Rusch and they lived on that farm since their marriage. To them were born a son and three daughters. The oldest daughter, Mrs. Charles (Emma) Dehnert, of Sheboygan, preceded her father in death.

Mr. Hingiss had been active all his life, and death came unexpectedly as he sat in his rocking chair, Monday morning about 8:00 o’clock.

He leaves a widow, a daughter, Ella, and a son, Benjamin, at home, and Mrs. August Marks, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has three brothers, Ferdinand, Abbotsford; Adolph, Kiel; Fred, Cleveland; and a married sister, Mary, in Chicago.

Among the relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Hingiss and family, Kiel, and Chilton and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hingiss.

In the obituary of Alvin Hingiss, published in the Tribune of May 2, we would like to make this correction:

Mr. Hingiss was named Alvin and the daughter who preceded him in death was Mrs. Charles (Emma) Dehnert of Sheboygan.
