Miss Pear Beeckler visited
Neillsville friends Tuesday.
Arnold Worchel and W.J. Gerlach
were county seat visitors Tuesday.
Will Shafer is at work again
after his recent illness.
Principal Max Geimer spent Sunday
morning at Marshfield.
Mrs. Will Shafer is suffering
with a felon since Sunday.
Mrs. F.J. Baer spent last
Saturday engaged with abstract work at the county seat.
Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Beeckler
Sundayed at Chili with Mr. and Mrs. Clark Waterman.
The circle will meet with Mrs.
Geo. Wilson in the town of York on Wednesday next week.
Mrs. H.E. Williams came home
Tuesday from a several days visit with relatives at Neillsville.
Mrs. Charles Neimas spent
election day at the Will Neimas homes in Chili.
Mrs. Wella Beecher and children
left for their new home at Thorp, Wednesday.
Fred Gerber is suffering with
neuralgia since the first of this week.
Vernie Howard came home from
Cayuga and Bruce where he has spent the last several months on Tuesday.
Beulah and Amy Lee have given
their school mates hereabouts delightful days with their sugar parties on
several occasions this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Merg after a
week’s visit here at Mrs. Ameila Reichert’s went home to Fond du Lac Wednesday.
Rob. Tompkins was down from
Rhinelander Tuesday and made his parents a visit.
Dan Hughes, principal of the
schools at Waldo arrived home on Tuesday to spend Easter vacation here with
relatives.
W.J. Davis, Byrl Wilson and J.B.
Daugh? spent Tuesday night at Merrillan attending a meeting of the I.O.O.F.
Ross Paulson left for the Dakotas
on another horse buying trip last Sunday.
He expects to be home next week Tuesday.
Miss Elizabeth Schwantes and Linda Gripentrog who were here at Fred
Schwantes went home to Spencer two weeks since.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rowe are home
from a week’s visit with his sister Mrs. Mary Redmond at Rice Lake.
Vet Marsh arrived here Monday
having returned from a several month’s visit with his son Clare and daughter
Hope at Porterville, Cal.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gorman and
son Norman of Wausau were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wittke here at Forest
House a couple days the first of the week.
Mrs. Caroline Ljustig went to
Neillsville Saturday and made a four day’s visit between the Mesdames Matt Marx,
Neuman, Aug. Garbisch, Schuette, Moldenhauer, Anderson, Karman and Cornelius.
Mrs. Geo. Beaver and daughter
Rosetta went to Athens Wednesday to visit the latter’s oldest sister who is
attending the Catholic school at that place.
Miss Frances Smith came home from
Madison Monday.
Geo. Hollenbach spent Monday at
Marshfield.
James Davidson of town of Fremont
was in town Monday.
Tim King spent the first half of
the week at the Ara Lee home.
Arnold Worchel came home on
Monday after a winter’s absence at Cayauga.
Miss Josie Bass of Neillsville
spent Monday afternoon here with friends.
Miss Elsie Breseman came up from
Neillsville Saturday and remained over until Tuesday evening, visiting her
parents.
Mrs. Keaney Davis and daughter
Charlotte, Mrs. Geo. Beaver and Mrs. Hams visited Neillsville friends Monday.
Mrs. Lon Stevens came down from
Spokeville Friday and made an over Sunday visit between relatives and friends
here.
Louis Knoop, R.W. Ebert and Dan
Brooks of Chili with John Riedel of Nasonville were in town last Friday.
Edwin Schafer of the Ridge is
home since Monday from a week’s visit with relatives and old friends at
Plymouth.
Mrs. A.B. Schuler and her two
children arrived home Monday eve from a 3 week’s visit at Brillion.
Mrs. C.A. Guth and her three
children are here from Athens since yesterday visiting at H. Schlinsog’s.
Mr. Guth is expected tomorrow to spend Easter with them among his old
friends.
B. Tylac went to Columbia last
Thursday evening and spent the night with relatives.
Miss Amanda Lange after a week’s
visit here at Rev. Raffe went back to Wausau and her school work there Monday.
Miss Adella Kopps spent Tuesday
morning with her sister Miss Alma Kopps at Neillsville and the two ladies spent
the afternoon here with Mrs. Chester Sheldon.
Reinhold Viergutz went to
Milwaukee Tuesday for a week’s stay and visit, then will move on to Theif River
Falls, Minn. and make a summer’s sojourn thereabouts.
Mrs. E.D. Prange of Ebbe
accompanied by her sister-in-law Mrs. Ed Prange of Kohler, Sheboygan county came
over from Ebbe, Tuesday and spent several hours with Mrs. W.D. Rose.
W.S. Davis and Geo. Frei have
installed sanitary drinking cups for their cows in their stables within the past
two weeks.
Miss Lena Marten and little niece
Irene Malamphy of Chili spent last week here with the John Bladl family.
Mrs. Alfred Drescher and Miss
Amanda Heisler spent last Friday with Mrs. Walter Gerhardt at the Marshfield
hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Nick Wiermanski were
called to Markman last Friday to attend the funeral of Martin Martzk, Mrs.
Wiermanski’s father.
Miss Freida Williams visited Mrs.
Wm. Poate at Neillsville last Friday.
Gust. Beilke visited relatives at
Marshfield, Wednesday.
G.L. Dobson, a temperance
lecturer from Belle Center spoke here in the Union Church Monday night.
Geo. Hales of Dickinson Co., N.
Dak. is here since Saturday visiting his brother A.W. Hales in York.
Mrs. Chas. Lotz of Marshfield
visited Mrs. Pete Stallman and Mrs. Geo. Frazer here a couple days last week.
Ernest Schlinsog drove down
Tuesday for Lon Huckstead who is since then chief carpenter on Ernest’s new
barn, the farm work of which was begun this week.
Mrs. Will Dahl who with her 2
children came down from Wheeler 10 days since after a visit between the Chas.
Lowery, Ray Campbell and John Dahl homes left on Wednesday for their new home at
Medford.
Mrs. Ed Ackerman went to Chicago
Monday to assist in the care of her daughter, Miss Nora who since last week has
been ill at the home of her sister Mrs. Gay Eilers.
A.G. Anderson of Sherwood drove
in on Monday with Fred Erdman from there who took the train for Buford N. Dak.
where he expects to spend the summer.
Wm Schwartz of Elkhart Lake came
Saturday and remained over until Tuesday looking after his property interests
here and visiting his friends.
R.C. Beecher, rural carrier on
No. 4 did not get in on the return trip until after 6 o’clock pm on Wednesday
and Thursday of last week owing to the bad conditions of the roads.
Arthur Neimas has charge of the
Condor Lumber Company’s yard here since Monday.
Llewlyn Beecher sold his
residence property and two lots here to Free Converse last week.
Mrs. G.E. Amidon spent Sat. with
Mrs. R.K. Williams and Mrs. Laura Brown at the latters home in Neillsville,
returning here Sunday morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Dale Davis
entertained a large company of friends at cards last Friday night and materially
advanced the “chain gang” boost the side walk fund.
Jim Tremeling made daily trips to
Marshfield for several days the first of the week with his 9 year old son,
Albert that they might have the assistance of a specialist in caring for a case
of ear trouble suffered by the boy for 10 days past.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wilson
celebrated their wooden wedding Wednesday evening and entertained a dozen of
their close friends at cards. A
delicious lunch served on wooden plates topped off the evening’s festivities.
The Rev. E.A. Wolf visited by his
brother, one Rev. Wolfe of Milwaukee closed a very interesting and worthy series
of religious meetings here last Sunday evening.
A full house greeted them on the last night.
Llewlyn Beecher went to Thorp
Monday to enter upon his new duties for the Thorp Creamery Company.
His youngest child was taken ill Sunday and the family for that reason,
are here with his parents.
Mrs. H.A. King accompanied by her
daughter, Mrs. Ann Lee went to Colby Monday to attend the funeral of an aunt of
the formers, one Mrs. Edgar Cobb of that city who died Sunday night at St.
Josephs Hospital in Marshfield.
Mrs. August Butashke and Mrs.
Paul Schoenieke of Ashippun came up last week Thursday to visit Mr. and Mrs.
H.C. White. They in company with Mr.
Witte spent Friday at the Marshfield hospital with Mrs. Witte after which the
ladies continued on to their homes.
Miss Shirley Knorr entertained
twenty young people at a delightful party Saturday evening in promoting the work
of the “chain gang” and adding money to the side walk fund.
In an advertisement guessing contest Arthur Neimas won the prize a nice
sweet stuffed Easter duck, while in the music contest Rex Beeckler easily won
out and secured the prize, a piece of sheet music.
The evening’s proceeds turned over to the treasury were $2.50.
Miss Birdline Kihn was at
Neillsville, Tuesday.
Harold Lavey is getting on o.k.
after pneumonia.
Dr. Rath was at Eau Claire on
Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rausch spent
Thursday with relatives at Neillsville.
The annual Eastern Star Easter
ball will be given at the Neillsville opera house Monday evening.
Adolph Schlinsog had a barn
raising Thursday. He is putting up a
structure 36 x 56.
W.D. Rose spent Wednesday looking
after his property interests at Marshfield.
Miss Pearl Beeckler went to Chili
Wednesday and spent a couple days at Clark Waterman’s.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wittke went to
Wausau Wednesday for a couple days visit among relatives.
Miss Amelia Trimberger had dental
work done at Neillsville on Tuesday.
Albert Lutkov of Milwaukee spent
the first half of the week here a guest in the W.J. Davis home.
Mrs. H. F. Schlinsog spent
yesterday with her brother Henry Boer who is ill at Marshfield.
Mrs. P.M. Ross and daughter
Hilary are visiting relatives at Appleton and Green Bay since Wed.
Mrs. Hale Davis will entertain
the OE.S. Birthday Club tomorrow, Saturday afternoon.
Mrs. A.P. Fulwiler and daughter
Violet with Mrs. Mary Fulwiler went to Marshfield Wednesday to visit relatives
until after Easter.
Mrs. Martin Haaz and Mrs. August
Riedel spent Tuesday with Mrs. H.C. Witte at the Marshfield Hospital.
At a meeting of the stockholders
of the Lynn Telephone Co., it was voted to raise the shares from $10 to $25.
Master Grant Morris is rapidly
recovering from his recent serious wrestle with pneumonia.
Louis Williamson of Neillsville
spent Wednesday afternoon here with friends.
W.D. Rose has bought Dave
Steele’s twenty acre farm on the east side of town.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Berg gave a big
and enjoyable card party Wednesday night in assisting the “chain gang” and
promoting the sidewalk fund to the tune of $7.00.
Mrs. Dave Williams returning from
Dell Rapids, South Dak., Tuesday, joined Mr. Williams here at the Eugene
Crandall home and they remained until yesterday.
H.C. Witte spent yesterday with
his wife at the Marshfield Hospital.
Mrs. Witte still continues to improve, though of necessity, very slowly.
Mrs. Gust. Deutsch of Friendship
after a week’s visit here with her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Goebel went to
Neillsville last Friday eve for a visit with her mother-in-law and other
relatives before returning to Friendship the next day.
Rob Tompkins of Rhinelander
visited his parents here the first of the week.
Rob has resigned his position with the Rhinelander Produce Co. and will
in the near future move to Canada to engage in quite a different line of work.
Mrs. Geo Rose entertained 23
girls in honor of her daughter Elva and to further the sidewalk fund at a party,
Saturday evening. $2.30 was raised
and a very enjoyable evening afforded those present.
Miss Alice Hart of Humbird
visited her uncle’s Geo. And Fred and their families here on Monday and went to
Neillsville next day to attend the Teachers examination which was held there
this week.
Mr. and Mrs. T.F. Lee are home
since Monday from a 2 week’s visit between Palmyra, Edgerton, Milwaukee and
Waukesha. While attending a public
auction at Waukesha, T.F. had the pleasure of seeing a calf sold for $1610.00.
Mrs. Dora Garbisch though still very sick is slowly gaining strength.
Rush Wentworth went to Winona
Saturday in response to news of his aunt Mrs. Howard Wentworth’s illness.
He returned home on Monday.
The Misses Pearl Berg, Mildred
Kintzele, Jennie Ackerman, Elsie Neitzel, Jean Davis, Adelina Nickel, Allie
Root, Shirley Knorr, Fern Williams, Maria Davis, Elsie Johnson, Gladys Wage,
Harriet Pietenpol and Ora Davis were among the young ladies from Granton and
vicinity who spent several days of this week at the Neillsville
in attendance at the Teachers Examination.
Liveryman Geo. J. Rose and Harry
Burch experienced an exciting and bad runaway with the dray team Monday, hitched
to a wagon, with an empty hay rack on.
Fortunately all escaped serious injury.
Something in the unloading of a threshing machine for Walter Moldenhauer
off a first car here in the railroad yard frightened the team into running away.
