Martens, Mabel (27 July 1874 - 2 Oct. 1946)
Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Martens, 72, formerly of Abbotsford, Wisconsin, who died Wednesday, following injuries received in an automobile accident, Sunday, will be held at Dorchester, Saturday afternoon. The body was brought to the Fuchsgruber Funeral Home at Dorchester and will lie in state there until 1:30 Sunday afternoon when a short funeral service will be held to be followed by services at the Little White Church and internment will be made in Memorial cemetery.
Mrs. Martens, who was making her home in Chicago, with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rutzky, also former Abbotsford residents, accompanied them for a ride, Sunday evening. It was reported that they were struck by a car driving at a high rate of speed in the wrong lane about 7:00 p.m.
All three occupants were injured and taken to St. Theresa’s hospital at Waukegan, where Mr. Rutzky died that same night. Mrs. Martens died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Rutzky is still at the hospital suffering from a slight concussion of the brain, fractured ribs and severe cuts.
Mr. Rutzky, 52, was brought to Wausau where the funeral services were held this afternoon. Besides his widow he leaves one daughter, Harriet.
Mabel Barker was born July 27, 1874, on a farm near Abbotsford and lived in this vicinity all her life until about four years ago when she went to Chicago with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rutzky, She was married Jan. 3, 1904, to Fred Martens, and lived in Dorchester where Mr. Martens was engaged in business until his death in 1927. For a number of years she made her home with her sister, Miss Eva Barker, in Abbotsford, Wis.
She leaves five children, Mrs. Pat (Gladys) McCarron, Dorchester; Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Rutzky, Chicago; Mrs. Guy (Jane) D’Orazio, Medford; Harold, of Dorchester; and Lloyd, of Chicago. There are three grand children, Miss Harriet Rutzky, Barry D’Orazio, and Neal McCarron.
