Chaltry, Jeffrey (Skull Fracture - 12 June 1971)
Jeffrey Chaltry,
19-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Chaltry of Neillsville, is in serious
condition in a Marshfield hospital as the result of injuries suffered in an
automobile mishap near his home early last Saturday.
He is reported suffering
from a skull fracture, and was taken to the hospital in Marshfield after
receiving treatment in Memorial Hospital in Neillsville.
Miss Mary A.
Austin, 18, of Eau Claire, Chaltry’s girlfriend and driver of the car involved,
told police that she had driven into the Chaltry driveway about 1 a.m. and let
Jeffrey out. She was driving young Chaltry’s car.
She told city police
she had backed out of the driveway into Hewett Street and was starting to travel
southward when Chaltry ran across the street and in front of the car. Police
said a car radio aerial was broken, but that the car otherwise was undamaged.
The young man apparently was thrown to the pavement and suffered the fracture
when his head struck the pavement.
Miss Austin’s story of how the
accident occurred was corroborated by her brother, David Austin of Rt. 2,
Neillsville, whom they had picked up at his home earlier in the evening.
