Mills, Charlotte #2 (30 JUL 1840 - 4 OCT 1907
Last Friday morning Mrs. Charlotte Mills of Christie (Clark Co., Wis.), mother of Claude Mills, a well known citizen, left the home to visit a friend. It was her habit to do this, and often stay away overnight. Saturday Mr. Mills went to Tioga after lumber, returning at night. The mother, not having returned, he went to get her. No one knowing her whereabouts, he searched for her, found track on the bank of the Black River, and after further search found her body floating in three feet of water. Immeasurably shocked, he had the body removed to the home. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon.
She had been depressed for some time before and told her son that there was no use living, because of bad luck, etc. Before going to her death she had carefully laid out on her bed her burial clothes.
District Attorney Crosby and Dr. E. L. Bradbury made an examination of the body. The cause of death was so apparent that no inquest was held.
