Ampe, Frieda (16 January 1885 - 12 June 1971)
Mrs. Frieda Ampe, 86, died Saturday in Neillsville, where she had resided
the last six years at Memorial Home.
Mrs. Ampe, the former Frieda Verhel,
was born January 16, 1885, in Belgium. Mrs. Ampe came to the United States in
1900 to Glenwood City. She was married in Glenwood City to Julius Ampe in 1901.
After their marriage, they farmed at Glenwood City until they came to Greenwood
in 1920 and settled on a farm four miles south of the city. He died September
19, 1940. Mrs. Ampe lived there until 1947 and then in the city of Greenwood
until in 1965, when she went to reside at Memorial Home in Neillsville. She was
a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a charter member of St. Ann’s Society,
and an honorary member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors are
five sons, Albert of Washington, Kans., Alphonse of Rudolph, Arthur and Theodore
of Neillsville and Raymond of Marshfield; three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Masson
of Sarasota, Fla., Mrs. Kenneth (Alvina) Keach of Viola and Mrs. Mary Jones of
Petal, La.; also 37 grandchildren and 80 great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev.
Mathew Malnar of Independence officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary’s
Cemetery.
