High School Notes (11 May 1916)
The Neillsville High School has again won
distinction. In the District Oratorical Contest held in the River Falls Normal
auditorium last Friday between the ten winners of the various leagues in this
district, Harry Zimmerman, the Neillsville representative speaking the “New
South”, won first place and will represent this district in the State Contest at
Madison. Here he will contest with the winners of the seven other Normal
Districts of Wisconsin. While the contest at River Falls was close and of a high
order, there was no question as to first place, Mr. Zimmerman receiving three
firsts and two seconds in the ranks of the five judges. This is the first time
that Neillsville has succeeded in getting into the state contest, and we
appreciate the honor which Mr. Zimmerman has brought to our school. The other
winners in the contest Friday were Colfax second place and River Falls third. In
the Declamatory contest, Cumberland secured first, Mondovi second and Chippewa
Falls third.
The Sophomore Domestic Science class served a delightful six
o’clock, three-course dinner in the domestic science rooms to the high school
faculty Tuesday.
The Annual Exhibit and “Go to School Day” will be held
Friday, May 19.
The next Senior program will be given Thursday night of
this week.
Thorniel Haugen and Everett Wildish were members of the Co. A
team which took part in the State shoot at Milwaukee Sunday.
The annual
Junior-Senior Banquet will be held in the high school auditorium next Saturday
night.
The Crimson and White for 1916 is now on the press and will soon
be ready for distribution. By careful management it is hoped there will be no
deficit to be made up this year. Only a limited number are being printed. The
annual this year will surpass all other editions.
