Welsch, John #2 (15 MAR 1845 - 25 AUG 1908)
Tuesday morning John Welsch died at his home in this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.) after a long illness. He was born in Petersboro, Canada, on March 15, 1845. He came to Wisconsin in 1871 and settled in the town of Washburn (Clark Co.), where he cleared up a fine farm. On Oct. 18, 1876 he was united in marriage to Katherine McGinnis. To this union three sons were born, two of whom, John and Mark, have preceded their father in death. After a residence of 20 years in Washburn, Mr. and Mrs. Welch came to Neillsville to make their home, where they have since resided.
Mr. Welsch was one of the best known men in the county. For 15 years he was chairman of the town of Washburn, and also was an extensive buyer and shipper of stock. His life was one of industry, frugality and honesty, and it is to be regretted that when the sky took on the rosette hues of comfort and plentitude for him, his sun should slowly sink and end of life of usefulness and integrity. Mrs. Welch and one son, Richard, remain to mourn his demise. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at the Catholic Church.
