Podevels, Gerhardt Armin (January 26, 1925 - May 9, 2009)

Gerhardt Podevels, 84, of New England, ND, died at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital near Sturgis, SD on May 9, 2009.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in New England, ND.

Rev. Bruce Peterson presided. Burial followed at the Our Redeemers Lutheran Cemetery north of New England.

Mr. Gerhardt Podevels, 84, of New England, ND, passed away at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital near Sturgis, SD on May 9, 2009.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in New England, ND. Rev. Bruce Peterson will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 at the church prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at the Our Redeemers Lutheran Cemetery north of New England.

GERHARDT ARMIN PODEVELS was born in Colby, Wisconsin on January 26, 1925 to Herman and Metha (Kropelin) Podevels. He served his country in the US Army during World War II. Gerhardt was honorably discharged in 1946 after the war ended.

Gary, as he was known, moved to North Dakota and Montana to work with summer harvest and later he went home to Wisconsin to the family farm near Colby, Wis. Gary moved to Milwaukee, WI and worked at a cement block factory for 35 years and then retired.

Upon retirement in 1987, Gary moved to New England, ND and has resided there since.

He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran ELCA Church at Edgar, Wisconsin.

Although he never married, Gary had many faithful friends during his lifetime.

Gary was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in New England and was also a member of AA of New England and Dickinson, ND.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his brother, Arvin (Vivian) Podevels of Marshfield, WI and four nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Elroy and Delbert.
