Miller, John G. (12 JUL 1873 - 24 JAN 1953)

John G. Miller passed away at his home in Sigourney, Iowa, on Saturday, Jan. 24, 1953. Born on July 12, 1873, in Germany, he came to America with his parents when 10 years of age, and settled on a farm in New Holstein, Wis. They lived there for several years and then moved to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) and bought land, then a wilderness, two and one-half miles west of town, on what is now Highway 29.

In 1900 he was married to Miss Mary Miller of Owen, by the late Rev. Bubeck of Cadott. They purchased the land near the North Fork River, where they made their home until 1906, when they left Thorp by covered wagon and a team of work horses, driven by Mr. Miller, and a team of ponies and buggy driven by his wife and small daughter, Making the trip to Sigourney, Iowa, in two weeks, where they lived on a farm until ill health and old age forced them to retire.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Violet Woods, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Peterson, Jim Falls, Mrs. Emma Auman, Stanley; one brother, Carl, of Withee, and a host of nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death, as did four brothers, Delef, Hans, Henry and Claude; and one sister, Mrs. Clara Seiler, Sister Bay, Wis.
