Rucks, Dorothy (Marriage - 19 July 1947)

In a candle light ceremony, Miss Dorothy Rucks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rucks, of Colby, became the bride of Edward Voge, seaman first class, on Saturday afternoon, July 19, at Zion Lutheran church at Colby, Wis. The Rev. Otto Hoffman read the double ring service at 4:00 o’clock in a setting of flowers and lighted candles.

Mrs. Carl Priem, organist, played Lohengrin’s Wedding March for a processional and Mendelssohn’s Wedding March as a recessional. She also accompanied Miss Jeanette Sixel, a friend of the bride, who sang, "O Promise Me," and "The Lord’s Prayer."

The bride wore a gown of white brocaded net, fashioned with long sleeves, a sweetheart neckline and tiny buttons, extending down the back to the waist and very full skirt which ended in a long train. She wore a gold locket which belonged to her mother. The finger tip veil was caught with lilies of the valley to a sweetheart cap. She carried a bouquet of white roses, pink and white carnations and blue larkspur, tied with a large, satin bow.

Attending her as maid of honor was her sister, Miss Margaret Rucks, and Mrs. Robert Wibben, sister of the groom, both of Colby, Wis. They were dressed alike, Miss Rucks in blue and Miss Wibben in pink. Their gowns were designed with a tight, satin bodice, sweetheart neckline, short sleeves and full white nylon net skirts, over colored satin. They wore white sweet heart bonnets, white lace mitts, and carried colonial bouquets of sweet peas to match the color of their frocks, white roses and baby’s breath. Each wore a gold cross and chain, a gift from the bride.

Donald Voge, brother of the groom, as best man, and Robert Wibben, attended the groom.

The mothers of the bride and groom wore navy blue dresses and a corsage of mixed flowers and roses and carnations.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the church parlors, decorated for the occasion with pink, blue and white streamers and garden flowers. A three tier wedding cake topped by a miniature bride and groom, and candles, served as a center piece on the bridal table. Supper by candle light, was served to 70.

A wedding dance was held at Trianon Ball room.

The groom, a graduate of the Abbotsford high school, class of 1943, is a cook in the navy, stationed at Corpus Christi, Texas, where he will return Aug. 1.

The bride, who attended Stratford and Edgar high schools, will stay at the home of her parents until Seaman Voge receives his discharge in a few months.

Relatives from Colby, Unity, Marshfield, and Dorchester attended the wedding.

Those from away attending were Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Miller, the groom’s grand parents, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bilz, of Butternut, and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Marks and two sons, of Chippewa Falls.
