Brown, Martha (22 Sept. 1860 - 18 July 1947)

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Brown, 86, who died Friday afternoon, were held Monday afternoon at the Withee Methodist church, the Rev. James Irish officiating. Internment was made in the Greenwood cemetery.

The pallbearers were Edward Pascoe, Abbotsford; Henry Wollum, Billy Wollum and Mr. Rabski, Owen; Sylvester Price, Cadott; and John Zasoba, Withee.

Mrs. Brown was born Martha Rockwell at Mauston, Sept. 22, 1860. In October, 1878 she was united in marriage to Charles A. Brown at Minneapolis. The young couple lived in Minnesota for about five years and then moved to Withee.

To this union 10 children were born, three of whom preceded their parents in death.

After Mr. Brown’s death in 1905, Mrs. Brown continued to live at Withee until 1941 when she came to live in Abbotsford in July of 1946 when the house in which she lived was sold. Mrs. Brown went to Cadott to live with her daughter, Mrs. Elsie Price. A month later she fractured a leg and was hospitalized at Chippewa Falls for five and one-half months. After receiving care at a nursing home at Chippewa Falls for four months, she was taken to Sacred Heart hospital, Eau Claire, where death came Friday afternoon, July 18.

Surviving are two sons, Earl Brown, Red Bluff, Cal.; and Emmet Brown, Mt. Prospect, Ill.; and five daughters, Mrs. Sara Beebe, Vesper; Mrs. Elsie Price, Cadott; Mrs. Florence Huneywell, Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Edward (Frances) Pascoe, Abbotsford; Mrs. Henry (Hazel) Wollum, Owen.

There are 21 grand children and 27 great grand children.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Pascoe and daughter, Darlene, of Abbotsford, attended the funeral.
