Rowley, Jacob (10 FEB 1872 - 15 MAY 1945)

Jacob Kline Rowley was born on Feb. 10, 1872, in Chicago and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. F. Olson, in Cedar Rapids, Ia., on May 15 at the age of 73 years, three months and five days, after a brief illness.

On Sept. 22, 1898, he was united in marriage to Anna Knaak in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. To this union five children were born: George S., Edward A., Donald J., Dorothy H., and Lucy Ann. Donald, Lucy and his wife preceded him in death. Surviving are: George of Loyal, Edward of Green Bay and Dorothy of Cedar Rapids, also eight grandsons and one granddaughter, and other relatives.

His early life was spent in Chicago and Evanston, Ill., where he was engaged in clerking in stores and meat markets. He later moved onto a farm in Racine county, and in 1913 he settled at Loyal, continuing farming here until the death of his wife in January 1938, when he retired. He was converted when a young man about 23 years of age. For a time he was an officer in the Salvation Army. Later he became a member of the Methodist church and served for 25 years as Sunday school superintendent. He joined the Free Methodist church in 1915 and was a very faithful and active member, serving in various capacities as trustee, steward, treasurer of local and district funds, class leader and superintendent, and many times represented the circuit at the annual conferences.

He was a devoted husband, a kind father, a respected citizen, a sweet-spirited Christian and was faithful to his church and his Lord. He attended the last Sunday service on Apr. 29.

The funeral was held at the Free Methodist church here on Saturday, May 19, at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. W. T. Fensome officiating and the Rev. K. G. Rumppe of Loyal and the Rev. Ralph Dietzman of Oshkosh assisting.

The pallbearers were Richard Larson, Russell Gross, Charley Schaeffner, Herbert Fensome, Edwin Cook and Andrew Lewis. Flowers were in charge of Ethel Fensome, Mrs. Charley Schaeffner, Athlie Larson, Mrs. Andrew Lewis, Mrs. Herbert Fensome and Mrs. Elwin Cook.

Alice Fensome, Ila Mae Smith and Rev. Rumppe furnished the music, with Mrs. Floyd Smith as musician. They sang "Rock of Ages," "Gathering Home," "I Will Meet You in the Morning" and "It Is Well With My Soul."

Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were the Rev. and Mrs. C. F. Olson and sons Kenneth, Nathan and Meryl, of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Rowley of Green Bay; the Rev. August Knaak and Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Knaak of Hancock; and Henry Kleinstelber, Mrs. Art Remer, Mrs. Louise Hamner, Miss Esther Clemmans and Herbert Weckmueller, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He was laid to rest beside his wife and two children in the Loyal cemetery.

The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the bereaved relatives.
