Catlin, Martha #2 (15 OCT 1870 - 1 JUL 1945)

Mrs. William Catlin, 74, died at the LeGault hospital in Owen at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, July 1. Although Mrs. Catlin had not been in good health for a few years, she was taken seriously ill and confined to the bed for only a week preceding her death.

Martha Welsh was born in Loyal township on Oct. 15, 1870, and received her education in the public schools of that township. She lived in Loyal and vicinity all of her life.

She was married on July 19, 1890, to William Catlin, who preceded her in death ten years ago. Soon after their marriage they moved to a farm in the town of Sherman, which they owned until after they came to the village 26 years ago.

She was one of a large pioneer family, her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Welsh, being among the first white settlers to come to this vicinity. Among the outstanding characteristics of those early days, which were manifested in her life among us, were a generous hospitality and an ever-ready wiliness to help in the time of trouble.

She was a member of the Loyal Methodist church and the Royal Neighbors of America. For many years, since moving to the village, Mrs. Catlin was a local correspondent for the Tribune.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, with the Rev, M. E. Taylor officiating. The hymns, "In the Garden" and "The End of the Road," were sung by Mrs. Calvin Prior and J. R. Colby, with Miss LaVonne Smith as accompanist. The members of the Royal Neighbor camp attended in a body.

Serving as flower bearers were the following granddaughters: Mrs. Rose Herman, Mrs. Elaine Blaettler, Mrs. Eleanor Engevold, Mrs. Melva Guzman, Mrs. Gwendolyn Bruckert, Mrs. Melford Catlin, Miss Betty Jane Catlin, Miss Fern Catlin, Mrs., Vernon Catlin and Mrs. Marion Catlin.

Five grandsons and one nephew, Vernon, Melford, Harvey and Billy Catlin, Clarence Imislund Jr. and Delbert Hutchins served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Catlin is survived by two daughters and three sons, Mrs. Elva Lewis and Claude and Haskell Catlin of Loyal, Lynn Catlin of Wisconsin Rapids and Mrs., Mary Imislund of Eau Claire. There are 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a twin sister, Mrs. Mary Vetter of Parkinstown, and two brothers, Grant and George Welsh of Loyal. One son, Perl, eight sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Those from away who attended the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Catlin and daughter, Betty Jane of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Mary Vetter of Perkinstown, Mrs. Mary Imislund, Clarence Imislund Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Melford Catlin, Mrs. Marion Catlin, Harvey Catlin, Mrs. Anton Imislund, Mrs. Louise LaLonde and Ben Garbow, all of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Catlin and children of Merrill, Mrs. Norbert Herman of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Catlin of Neillsville, and Mrs. Retta Cole, Miss Ida Cole, Mrs. Martha Davis and Misses Edith and Jeanette Harris of West Bend.

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a loved one.
