Flaherty, Charles E. (16 JUL 1882 - 7 JUL 1945)
Charles Eugene Flaherty, son of the Late Charles and Rhoda Welsh Flaherty, was born and baptized at Loyal on July 16, 1882, and passed away at the Medford clinic on July 7 due to complications. The deceased was ill one week before his death.
Mr. Flaherty, better known to his friends as Rola, was a resident of the town of Grover, Taylor county, for about 47 years, of which most of the time he was employed as a woodsman. He served on the Mexican border during the Mexican campaign of 1916. He also served for three years in World War 1 with Company A of Marshfield, the 127th division, 18 months of which were spent overseas. Hr received his honorable discharge on May 17, 1919.
In 1910 Mr. Flaherty was married to Viola Campbell at Perkinstown. To this union three children were born: T/Sgt. Gene, who is stationed in the Philippine Islands, Lillian of Montello and Ellen of Chicago. His wife passed away in 1924.
Survivors besides his children, are one brother, Vincent of Perkinstown and three sisters, Mrs. Harry (Agnes) Stoneburg of Cottage Grove, Ore., and Mrs. Kathryn Beaver and Mrs., Frank (Anna) Duell of Loyal. Three grandchildren also survive. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.
A military funeral was held at the Community church of Perkinstown at 2 p.m. July 9, with the Rev. Halverson of Rib Lake officiating. Burial was made in the Perkinstown cemetery. Music was rendered by Mrs. Harold Paulson, Mrs. Ernest Maurer and Fred Westrich. Those acting as pallbearers were Henry Miller, Henry Vogel, Arthur Smith, George Singleton, Melvin Clark and Jake Maurer. Flowers were carried by Mrs. Roy Armstrong, Leta Faye Parker, Norma Parker and Mrs. Selma Clough.
Relatives and friends who attended the funeral from here were Mrs. Kathryn Beaver and daughters, Evelyn and Alive, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Degenhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Duell and family, Dan Castner, Grant and Ervin Welsh and Henry Vogel.
The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the bereaved family.

Charles and Rhoda Flaherty were my great grandparents. Their daughter, Katherine, my grandmother, married Frank Beaver. I welcome any connections to this family.
