Benzschawel, Arnoldine (14 JUL 1953)

St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp was the setting for the lovely wedding of Miss Arnoldine Benzschawel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Benzschawel, Thorp, to Robert Gulcynski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Gulcynski, also of Thorp.

The 9 o’clock double ring ceremony, Tuesday, July 14, 1953, was performed by Rev. A. M. Muckerheide before an altar beautifully decorated with baskets of shaded orchid and white garden flowers. The nuptial music was sung by the children’s choir of the church.

The bride wore a nylon tulle over candlelite satin gown fashioned with a yoke of nylon tulle, with lace insertions in the bodice and skirt. The full skirt fell into the long train edged with nylon tulle pleating. She wore a double stand pearl necklace and matching earrings and carried a prayer book bouquet of tea roses and streamers and a crystal rosary, a gift of the groom. The fingertip veil, which was her mothers, was edged with lace and fastened to a headpiece trimmed with pearls.

An aunt of the bride, Mrs. Marian Culbert, served as matron of honor in a gown styled with a net over taffeta skirt with a polonaise drape of taffeta over the bouffant skirt. Miss Gerry Gulcynski, sister of the groom, and Miss Jacqueline Burss, friend of the bride, were bridesmaids. Their gowns were fashioned with fan pleated net over bouffant skirt and wore picture hats of pleated net. They wore white nylon gloves and carried bouquets of pink rose buds and delphiniums. All the bridal attendant gowns were in different shades of orchid.

Miss Judy Gulcynski, sister of the groom, was junior bridesmaid, and Suzann Benzschawel, sister of the bride, was flower girl. The junior bridesmaid wore a net over taffeta gown with a bouffant skirt and carried a bouquet of pink rose buds and delphiniums. The flower girl wore a white nylon tulle over satin gown similar to the bride’s and she carried a crocheted basket of pink roses.

Attending the groom were Joe Wewein, friend of the groom, as best man, Robert Benzschawel, Jr., brother of the bride, and James Benzschawel, cousin of the bride, as groomsmen. The groom and his attendants wore light grey suits with yellow carnation boutonnieres.

The mother of the bride attended wearing a dress of light blue crepe with white accessories and a red rose corsage. The groom’s mother was attired in an aqua linen dress with black accessories complimented by a corsage of red roses.

An 11:30 reception was held at St. Hedwig’s Parish Hall with 250 guests present.

When the young couple left on a wedding trip to the west, the bride was wearing a green rayon shantung dress with white accessories.

Both the bride and the groom are graduates of the Thorp High School. The bride is employed at the Thorp Finance office.
