Erma Johnson, 92, formerly of Greenwood, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, Ill. Graveside services will be held at Greenwood Cemetery at 11:30 a.m., on May 11, followed by lunch at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood.

Erma Wiersig was born July 6, 1916, in Colby, to Walter and Amelia Wiersig. She graduated from Colby High School in 1934 and Stevens Point College (now UW-Stevens Point) in June 1935. She then taught at the Maple Center School for four years before marrying Leslie Johnson on June 27, 1940, in Colby, Wis. After marriage, the couple moved around the state, including places like Wausau and Milwaukee, before settling down on a farm in the Greenwood area in the late 40’s. They moved into the city of Greenwood, the place she would always think of as home, in 1973. She was an active member and singer in the choir at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church-ELCA, Greenwood. In 1986, she moved to the Chicago, Ill. area, where she spent the rest of her days in the suburbs of Wilmette and Northbrook.

Survivors include three children, Bonnie Wehrenberg, Wilmette, Ill., Diane Maison, Jacksonville, Fla., and Wayne (Ann) Johnson, Gray, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Engle, Anastasia Wehrenberg, Brett Engle and Dr. Brian Wehrenberg; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon, Ashley, Rachael, Ryan and Haley Engle; and her brother, Dr. Donald (Bonnie) Wiersig, Bryan, Texas.

Preceding her in death were her husband; her brothers, Art Wiersig, Raymond Wiersig, and Leonard Wiersig; and sister, Eveline Kobs.
