Laabs, F. W. (6 Mar. 1881 - 6 Mar. 1948)

Funeral services for F. W. Laabs, who died at 4:30 a.m., Saturday, his birthday, at St. Joseph’s hospital, at Marshfield, following a year’s illness, were held at 1:30 at the Laabs home at Curtiss, were followed by rites at 2:00 o’clock at the Evangelical Lutheran church at Curtiss. Internment was made in Pine Hill cemetery. The Rev. G. E. Borreson was the officiating minister at the rites.

Mr. Laabs was born in the town of Green Grove March 6, 1881, and was married there in 1901, to Hattie Glenzer, who died Oct. 13, 1943. In December, 1944, he married Mrs. Lillie Botterud at Livingston, Mont.

Shortly after his first marriage, Mr. Laabs took a course in cheese making at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and then was an instructor there for a short time. He returned to Curtiss and started in the cheese making business, also owning several factories in the community.

He was associated with the Kraft Cheese Company at Milan, was vice-president of the Curtiss State Bank; and served on the school and village boards at various times. Two years ago he retired from active business.

Surviving besides his widow are one daughter, Mrs. George (Mernabel) Pease, Wisconsin Rapids, and seven sons, Herman F., Miami, Oklahoma, Glenzer C., Concordia, Mo., Orville A., Milan, Bernard M., Abbotsford; and Arthur T., Harold W., and Fred W. Laabs, all of Curtiss.

Other survivors are 15 grand children, one great grand child and five brothers, Emil and Arthur E. both of Colby, William, Oshkosh; Albert, Owen; and Ferdinand, Pocatello, Idaho. Two brothers, Ernest and Herman, preceded him in death.
