Baer, Alfred (11 Nov. 1878 - 27 Aug. 1948)
Funeral services for Alfred Baer, 69 years old, who died Friday afternoon, were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Christ Lutheran church. The Rev. F. H. Sprengler officiated at the rites during which a trio, composed of Miss Dorothy Kieser and the Misses Inez and Bernadine Gust, sang "My Faith Looks Up To Thee," and "Nearer My God to Thee."
Internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. The pallbearers were August and Arthur Giese, Carl Zenk, John Krupka, and Sam and John Remers.
Alfred Baer was born in Switzerland, Nov. 11, 1878, and received his education in that country and Italy. When he was a young man of about 20 years, he came to America and located in Ridgeway, where he was employed as a maker of Swiss cheese.
On April 12, 1909, he was united in marriage to Clara Fletcher, at Chicago. The young couple lived for seven years in Ridgeway, where their five children were born. The family then moved to Donald, Wisconsin, where they lived about 12 years, when they went to Edgar where Mr. Baer operated the Franklin Cheese Factory.
The factory burned four years ago, and Mr. Baer, who was in failing health, moved to Abbotsford and bought a home on the depot street. He was stricken with a heart attack and was taken to St. Joseph’s hospital, at Marshfield, where he died after being there about a week.
He leaves his widow, one son, Fred, of Milwaukee; Mrs. Fred (Margaret) Weinke, Edgar; Mrs. Wilfred (Bertha) Raasch, Mrs. John (Genevieve) Hochevar, and Miss Elizabeth Baer, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. One grandson, Leroy Weinke, also survives.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baer, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weinke and son, Leroy, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Raasch, Mr. and Mrs. John Hochevar, and Miss Elizabeth Baer were all here for the funeral. Friends from Edgar were also in attendance.
