Hoege, John (15 Apr. 1875 - 27 Oct. 1948)

Funeral services for John Hoege, 78 years old, who died Wednesday morning of a heart ailment, will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Lulloff Funeral Home at Colby, where the body is lying in state. The Rev. M. C. Goetsch, of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church, of Green Grove, will officiate. The body will be taken to Milwaukee for internment, on Saturday afternoon.

John Hoege, was born at Reedsville, April 15, 1875. When he was 3 weeks old, his father died, and at the age of 6 his mother died. He was then cared for by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Mertz.

On July 30, 1899, he was married, in Reedsburg, to Miss Emma Fokett. Mr. Hoege purchased a farm near Curtiss where they made their home until two years ago. They sold the farm and went to Milwaukee for six months and then came to Abbotsford where they made their home. Mr. Hoege has been in ill health the past six months and was admitted to St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, Oct. 12. He died of a heart ailment at 4:00 a.m. Wednesday.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran church and for a number of years served on the town board of the town of Mayville.
