Fiebig, Eva Laura (23 Feb. 1874 - 7 Feb. 1949)
Funeral services for Mrs. H. H. Fiebig, who died of coronary thrombosis Monday morning at 2:40 at her home, were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Presbyterian church. The body was taken to church at 1:00 o’clock from the Zink Funeral Home where it had been lying in state. The Rev. G. E. Griffiths conducted the services at 2:00 o’clock, during which Miss Jessie Merrill and Mrs. David Stieber sang "Ivory Palaces," and "He Hideth My Soul." Mrs. J. F. Sampson was accompanist.
Burial was made at the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.
The pallbearers were the four sons, Alfred, Edgar, Roger, and Gilbert, and two grand sons, William A. Fiebig and Robert A. Stephen.
Ladies of the Woman Missionary Guild and of the American Legion Auxiliary, carried the many beautiful floral remembrances.
Eva Laura Mellen was born Feb. 23, 1874, in Sheboygan county. She attended the Plymouth schools and was married to Herman H. Fiebig on May 18, 1892. They lived in Plymouth until 1900 when they moved to a farm two miles east of Abbotsford; in 1921 they came to Abbotsford where they have since made their home.
While they lived on the farm, Mrs. Fiebig was active in the work of the Riverside church and was Sunday school superintendent. When that congregation became a part of the First Presbyterian church of Abbotsford, Mrs. Fiebig worked zealously here. She was Sunday school superintendent for many years; was a member of the Ladies’ Home Mission and the Woman’s Missionary Guild.
She was an active member of the Women’s Relief Corps and closed the books of that organization when George Houlton, the last of the Civil War Veterans in this community, died.
Mrs. Fiebig was actively engaged in the work of the Red Cross during the war years and peace years. She also was Christmas seal manager for the Wisconsin Anti-Tuberculosis Association. She helped organize the Auxiliary to the American Legion and during the years served in almost every capacity as officer. She was the last surviving charter member.
Besides her husband she leaves her four sons, Alfred, W., Milwaukee; Edgar A., Sheboygan; Roger M., La Crosse; and Gilbert L., Green Bay; and one daughter, Mrs. Armand (Clara Louise) Stephen, of Milwaukee, all of whom were here for the funeral. Two children preceded their mother in death.
There are also four daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, and eight grand children.
Among those from away who attended the funeral were Clare F. Bemis, Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Davis, Green Bay; and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Young, Colby, Wis.
