Brooks, Mabel (15 SEP 1909)
(Merrillan Leader)
Another of the Merrillan young men has joined the be benedicts. This time it is Reuben C. Norman who has yielded to the pleadings of Cupid and on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1909, in the city of Marshfield, he was united in marriage to Miss Mabel Brooks of Granton (Clark Co., Wis.). The wedding was a quiet affair and after it the happy couple left for Arbor Vitae to enjoy a week’s camping.
The bride is a graduate of the Marshfield High School, and for the past two years has been at Harlem, Mont., where she has been instructor in the government school. Afeter the close of school this summer, in company with her father, she visited the Seattle fair, returning to her home in Granton about a month ago. She has visited here on several occasions and though not very well known in the village, those who have had the pleasure of making her acquaintance find her a most charming appearing young lady, and one whom we believe possesses those qualities necessary for the making of a home in its truest sense.
The groom needs no introduction, as in and near this village has his home been the greater part of his life. He is a graduate of our high school and also of the Bliss Electrical School at Washington, D. C.
For the past two years he has been employed in the power house at Hatfield and is the chief engineer at the power plant. He is a young man of excellent qualities and reputation who has many friends throughout the village, and is a fitting mate for the lady of his choice.
The couple will reside at Hatfield plant, the La Cross Water Power Co. having erected a most modern, up to date eight room house there for his occupancy. It is electric lighted, steam heated, with hot and cold water, the woodwork beautifully finished, and around the outside cement walks, a fine home in which to take his bride.
