Cleland, Paul C. (24 MAY 1871 - 26 DEC 1951)

 

Paul C. Cleland, a resident of the Town of Hoard (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past several years, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter Hansen, Owen, where he had been making his home, on Dec. 26th, 1951, succumbing to a heart condition.  He was 80 years, 7 months and 2 days of age.

 

Funeral services were held at two o’clock, Dec. 28th from the First Congregational Church, Owen, with Rev. Arthur Meinhardt officiating.  Burial was made at the Riverside Cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were Robert Nissen, W.A. Fritz, Jacob Christensen, Oscar Parkinson, Lyle Haas and Elton Fritz.  Those in charge of floral offerings were Emaline Parkinson, Mathilda Haas, Natila Scherf and Barbara Haas.

 

Paul C. Cleland, son of the late Samuel and Selinda Cleland, was born on May 24, 1871 at Edgerton, Ill..  In June of the year 1897 he and May Ferguson were united in marriage at Rock Island, Ill.  The couple were blessed with four children, one son and three daughters, to whom he had always been a highly respected individual, as his foremost efforts were in providing abundance in provisions, love and respect within his home.

 

He was a veteran of the Spanish American War.  Since moving to this community to enjoy his late years he won the respect and admiration of all with whom he associated.

 

Here to attend his final rites were his children, William Paul Cleland of Marion, Indiana; Mrs. T.R. (Ada), Homewood, Ill; Mrs. Howard E. (Helen) Rogers, Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Mrs. Walter (Catherine) Hansen, Owen.

 

Two sisters have preceded him in death. Blanch McLane and Fannie Cleland, who died while serving as a missionary in Korea.
