Volkmar, Elizabeth (14 July 1873 - 16 Sept. 1951)

 

COLBY, WIS. -- Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock for Mrs. Elizabeth Volkmar, 78, who died Sunday afternoon at home after a year’s illness. The Rev. F. P. Puhlmann officiated at the services at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby, Wis. Burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

 

Elizabeth Uhlig was born in Germany on July 14, 1873, and came to the United States when a young girl. She was married in Colby to William Volkmar on August 30, 1900. They moved to a farm west of Colby, where they lived most of their lives, later moving to Abbotsford, Wis.

 

Mr. Volkmar died in February, 1944, and since then Mrs. Volkmar had resided in Colby, but for the past year had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Elsie Herrmann, in the town of Colby, Wis.

 

Surviving, besides Mrs. Herrmann, are three other daughters, Mrs. Herbert Neuhaus, Abbotsford; Mrs. William Thede, New Holstein; Mrs. Frieda Volkmar, Owen; Mrs. Alvin Thede, Colby, a son, Oscar Volkmar, Spencer; 21 grand children and four great grand children. There are also three brothers, Gust Uhlig, Abbotsford; William Uhlig, Glidden; and Paul Uhlig, Boone, Iowa.
