Tews, Edgar C. (21 January 1921 - 16 June 2009)

Edgar Tews, 88, of Neillsville passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, June 16, 2009.

He was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Neillsville to Charles and Olga (Oehlke) Tews.  He grew up two miles north of Neillsville in the Pine Valley Township on the family farm near the Black River.  After attending Neillsville schools, he had a long career as a carpenter and contractor.  He built over 70 homes in the area, with his final project being the Gazebo in downtown Neillsville.

Edgar lived in Neillsville his entire life and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.  He married Alice Beyer Sept. 16, 1950, at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

In his earlier years he was an avid trapper and fisherman and was a lifelong deer hunter.  He also made several fishing trips to Canada.  He and his wife, Alice, enjoyed traveling throughout the country.  His favorite times were spent at gatherings with both the Tews and Beyer families.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Alice;  four children, Linda (Norm) Dodge of Eleva, Scott (Carol) Tews of Neillsville, Mark Tews of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Paul (Cindy) Tews of Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Alex Dodge, Adam Dodge, of Eleva, Ryan Tews and Kelley Tews of Neillsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Arthur Tews; and three sisters, Nina Koss, Velda Kalsow and Edna Beyer.

A memorial service for Edgar was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Neillsville with visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Gesche Funeral Home.  Pastor Timothy Biebert officiated.  Music was provided by Sharon Nemitz, organist.  Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
