Kovatch, Yernie (24 AUG 1871 - 9 FEB 1952)
Death has summoned Yernie Kovatch from these earthly surroundings, coming to him quietly at his home on Saturday, Feb. 9th, 1952. He was 80 years and six months of age. Funeral services were conducted at nine o’clock Tuesday morning from the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen. Father Raymond Bornbach officiated at the final rites. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery. His sons served as pallbearers.
Yernie Kovatch was born on Aug. 24, 1871 at Ljubljana, Yugoslavia. On Jan. 27, 1896 at Peser, Yugoslavia, he and his wife, the former Mary Phillipic, were joined in wedlock. This happy union of 56 years was blessed with eight children, six sons, John Frank, Walter, Mike, Charles and Frederic, and two daughters, Mary C. Arnic and Anne O’Leary.
In the old country Mr. Kovatch was engaged in the occupation of farming as a youth. Upon coming to America in 1898 with his wife, two years after their marriage, they settled at Wenona, Ill., where they resided for 12 years where he was employed. Finally in 1910 the couple and their family moved to this community, settling on their farm in the vicinity of Atwood (Clark Co., Wis.) where he has farmed successfully and lived for the past 42 years.
He armed hard, working to develop his acreage and in providing a fine home for his family. His work and labors were well direct, as he too reflected the early boyhood Christian teachings into this home and was a long active member of the Holy Rosary Congregation her in Owen.
Surviving his departure are his widow and eight children, 16 grandchildren four great-grandchildren as well as a host of friends and relatives.
