Pfc. Alphonse Roman Schmitt, 24, town of Hull
soldier recently reported missing in Korea, was killed in action
Oct. 4, according to a later word received by his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. A. J. Schmitt, town of Hull.
Pfc. Schmitt was born Feb. 12, 1927, in the town
of Hull. He made his home there until he left for service Oct. 24,
1950. He had been in Korea since April, 1951, and served there with
the infantry.
He is survived by his parents; four brothers,
Emery, Abbotsford and Mark, Linus and Timothy, at home; and nine
sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Rita) Peterson, Abbotsford; Mrs. Elmer
(Maude) Kocian, Colby; Mrs. Harry (Naomi) Kruse, Des Plaines, Ill.;
Mrs. LeRoy (Carmen) Fosbick, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Leo
(Marcedes) Lang, Wauzeka; Mrs. Angelo (Blanche) Zera, Evanston,
Ill.; Mrs. Fred (Germaine) Redman, Edgar and Maryann and Virgene,
at home.

COLBY, WIS. -- The body of Pfc. Alphonse Roman Schmitt,
24, town of Hull soldier, who was killed in action in Korea Oct. 4,
arrived in the United States Sunday, aboard the ship Marquette
Victory, the Department of Defense announced.
The ship docked at San Francisco, port of
embarkation, with bodies of 860 Americans who lost their lives
fighting in Korea.
Pfc. Schmitt was born Feb. 12, 1927, in the town
of Hull, where he made his home until he left for service Oct. 24,
1950. He had been in Korea since April, 1951, and served there with
the infantry. He was reported missing in action Oct. 4, and his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Schmitt, were notified of his death on
that date, on Dec. 10.

COLBY, WIS. -- The body of Pfc. Alphonse Roman Schmitt,
24, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Schmitt, town of Hull, Wisconsin, who was killed
in Korea in (October), 1951, arrived at Colby Sunday morning. It
remained at the Lulloff Funeral Home until Tuesday morning when a
Solemn Requiem High Mass was read at St. Mary’s Catholic
church, by the Rev. N. B. Beschta.
The American Legion and V.F.W. posts, Colby,
conducted military rites and burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.
Pvt. Schmitt entered service on Oct. 24, 1950,
and received his training at Camp Polk, La., and Fort Ord, Cal.,
before he went overseas last April.
He served in the infantry and was first reported
missing in action Oct. 3, 1951. On Dec. 10, his parents were
notified that he had been killed in action.
