A
Fourth of July dance will be given at the Colby House, on the
evening of our National Holiday, to which Brother Blanchard invites
all those who love to trip the light fantastic. Satisfaction
guaranteed or money refunded a the gate. Don’t fail to
attend. Remember you fellow, it’s the early bird that catches
the good looking girl.
Last Thursday, about noon, our citizens, or a
portion of them were startled by the alarm of fire, when it was
discovered that the empty house, belonging to Mr. Randolph Norton,
in the eastern part of the village was on fire. The house was built
of light material, and the flames spread very rapidly, and in a few
minutes from the time the fire was discovered the building was
entirely consumed. There had been children playing about the
building and it is supposed they had gotten hold of matches in some
way and with them set fire to the house.
Don’t forget that next Saturday is the day
for the horse and cattle fair. Let everyone be present with their
stock, and make this our first, a grand success. There will be
plenty of buyers on hand, and what we now want is the
stock.
There are a large number of our citizens here,
who will be doing some painting this season, and we would advise
them to try the "Chemical Paint," it is mixed from pure white lead
and linseed oil. See advertisement, on opposite page, of Miller
Bro.’s Manufacturers, Cleveland, Ohio.
The County Board is in session at Neillsville.
