Donald A.
Wells, 86, Greenwood, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at the House
of the Dove, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on
Monday, July 27, at Missionary Baptist Church, Greenwood. The Rev.
Rob Love officiated. Burial followed in the Greenwood City
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tyler Horn, Brian Gust, James Wells,
Ronald Wells, Kenneth Horn, James Seefluth and Gerald
Immerfall.
Donald Adelbert Wells was born on March 2, 1923, in Greenwood, to
Adelbert and Elsie (nee Dux) Wells. He was raised on the family
farm, received hid education at Christopherson grade school, and
graduated from Greenwood High School in 1941. After completing his
education, he worked at the Greenwood Co-op and H.R. Baird. He
married Kathryn Sonderegger on Aug. 12, 1942 in St. Croix Falls.
Besides farming in Greenwood, he owned milk routes and hauled milk
for Stewart’s Redville Dairy from 1947 until 1961. He was
also a substitute mail carrier, on Route 2 in Greenwood, for 11
years. In 1966, he became the Standard Oil agent in the Greenwood
area. In 1976, he bought out the jobbership and became Wells Amoco
Oil Company. He retired on March 1, 1991.
He had many interests, but especially enjoyed spending time with
his family and friends , puttering in his shop, making birdhouses,
bird watching, playing cards, helping his neighbors, and the
morning coffee clutch in Greenwood.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Kathryn, Greenwood; his son,
Michael (Judy) Wells, Marshfield; his daughter, Marcia (Bill) Horn,
Loyal; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother:
Burt (Jean) Wells, Spencer; one sister Marguerite Friske,
Whitehall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and one sister, Adella
Friske.
Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with
arrangements.
