"Goldie" Steffen, 84, Greenwood, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at
the Golden Living Center—Three Oaks, Marshfield. Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, July 23, at St.
John’s Lutheran Church, Christie. The Rev. Johm Warmuth
officiated. Burial was in the Greenwood City Cemetery.
Goldean Dorene Brockney was born on April 22, 1925, in Elma, Iowa,
to Fred and Clara (nee Flugge) Brockney. She was baptized at St.
Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Elma, Iowa, on July 5,
1925, and confirmed on May 29, 1938. She attended Douglas #3 county
school in Mitchell County, Iowa. She married Arthur Steffen on July
10, 1946, in Riceville, Iowa. They Moved to Wisconsin on Feb. 2,
1959. They bought a farm in the town of Eaton, south of Greenwood,
and Farmed until 1982. She became a member of Trinity Lutheran
Church, Greenwood in 1959, and joined the Ladies Aid in 1968,
holding office for 17 years, seven years as treasurer and 10 years
as secretary.
She was a wonderful cook, making the best cinnamon rolls, bread,
fritters, buns, pies and fried chicken from scratch, using no
recipes.
She loved to garden, watch birds, take walks with her children and
grandchildren, and flowers. She also enjoyed yodeling and singing
while she worked. Her greatest treasures were her children and
grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all.
Survivors include five children, Linda )Mike) Schneider,
Brookfield, Jimmy Steffen, Greenwood, Dennis Steffen, Greenwood,
Darla Steffen, Greenwood, and Susan Steffen, Greenwood; six
grandchildren, Tom Schneider, Anne (Jay) Schultz, Dale Steffen,
Adam Steffen, Dustin Steffen, and Katrina Steffen; five
great-grandchildren, Joseph Schultz, Natalie Schultz, Gaven
Steffen, Jennifer Rodriguez and Alexander Steffen; nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Arthur, on
Aug. 29. 2005; one daughter, Lori Rena, on Feb. 12, 1967; one
sister, Alice Ewy; and three brothers, Ivorn Brockney, Lester
Brockney and Lavern Brockney.
Cuddie Funeral Home, Greenwood, assisted the family with
arrangements.
